Why should I become a pilot? There are as many answers to this question as
there are pilots. Obviously, learning to fly will dramatically change your life. It will allow you to go more places and do more things than you ever could before. As the pilot you
decide when to go and when to return. You make your own schedule. Ask anyone who is already a pilot why they learned to fly and you'll hear words such as "challenge",
"sense of accomplishment", "fun", "rewarding", "adventure", "a new career"... the list is endless. Why do you want to learn to fly?
What are the requirements for a pilot certificate? The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issues licenses to
pilots. They dictate that to be a pilot you must: Read, speak and understand English; Complete a basic physical; Pass knowledge and practical exams, and; Be at least 16 years old to
solo or 17 to carry passengers. ...and we'll be right there with you every step of the way....
How difficult is it? As with any other skill you master, flying is learned step by step. At Aero-Tech, you are
prepared for each specific flight lesson on the ground before you launch into the sky. Then, you reinforce what you've seen with our exclusive playful computer-based instruction program.
It's easy. And you never have to open a book! In almost thirty years, thousands of normal, everyday folk like you, have learned to fly at Aero-Tech. By the time you are ready
for your Private Pilot Certificate, you'll be secure in the knowledge that you're a safe and competent pilot.
How long will it take? The average sport pilot completes the requirements for a license within two to four weeks while a
private pilot will likely require three to four months. . Exactly how much time it will take you to learn to fly depends on the pace you choose to learn. Flight training at Aero-Tech
allows you to choose a program that best suits your time schedule. You can fly in the early mornings, in the evening hours or on weekends. Instructors are available at almost any hour of the
day. And, we're open 7 days a week. One thing is for sure ... you'll enjoy every minute of it!
How much will it cost? The investment in an initial certification varies from person to person. It depends on how
quickly you master flying skills and which aircraft you choose to fly in. Generally, a basic certificate will require about $5,000. Consider it a once in a lifetime investment.
Your certificate never expires. We invite you to visit the school in person to review all the factors of flight training with a flight professional.
What about the physical exam? A physical exam is not required for a sport pilot. Above that, the exam
administered by an FAA approved medical doctor is little more than a general checkup. This exam is designed to insure that the future pilot has no problem that would interfere with the ability to
fly. Eyesight or physical handicaps are not automatic barriers. We recommend a Third Class Student Airman Physical before or soon after enrolling into training. We have a complete list of
physicians in your area.
Do I have to own an airplane? Not at all! There are a vast number of pilots who don't own aircraft. They choose to rent. Rental fees are computed by the hour of flight time. For an individual trip, you may find that it costs less than to rent a car. After receiving your license, you can rent aircraft with varying seat capacity, speeds and price ranges. Aero-Tech offers a full line of aircraft from major manufacturers such as Cessna, Piper, Beechcraft, etc. We even have brand-new Cessna aircraft. When you're ready, with a little extra instruction, you can rent complex, high performance and multi-engine aircraft. If you do choose to fly in your own aircraft, that's great. Purchase your new Cessna from Aero-Tech, and receive your Private Pilot Certificate for free. That's right. No charge. All Aero-Tech aircraft undergo a rigorous mechanical inspection after each 100 hours of usage by FAA certified aviation mechanics. This insures peace of mind and worry-free rental.
What about age? Flight training can begin at any age. Our youngest cadet to date was 7 years old while the most mature
first-timer was 84 years old. However, 17 is the minimum age a certificate can be issued. You're never too young or too old to start. Good judgment and the ability to
physically control the aircraft are the primary factors.
What about insurance? Life, health and liability insurance underwriters have learned how extremely safe flying really
is. Consequently, your personal policies are probably not in jeopardy. Pilots may wish to purchase "renter insurance" at a special low price for added liability and property
protection. The hourly premium may be added to your aircraft rental invoice. Request more information on renters insurance from your flight professional at Aero-Tech.
What is the best time of the year to fly? In Kentucky, each
season has its advantages: summer provides long days; fall and winter allow improved flight performance due to cool air; and spring combines a little of both. Whenever you get the urge to
take flight is the best time to fly!

What are the benefits of being a pilot?
- Travel: A major benefit of becoming a Private Pilot is obviously the opportunity to travel to anywhere you
wish. Therefore, you can visit places you've wanted to visit, but didn't because they seemed too far and inconvenient to reach by car. Now there
just a few hours away, and what a view to enjoy while your traveling.
- Time Savings: You can fly in or leave according to your time schedule, not the airlines.
You can go where you need, get your business done and come back when you want. This can mean saving money on food, lodging, and car rental. It can also mean spending
more valuable time with your client, friends ... or your family.
- Convenience: Over half of all airline flights connect with the 20 busiest airports in the U.S. As a Private Pilot you'll have access to most of these major airports plus some 12,000
airports in small communities that the airlines don't reach. General aviation is the primary air link to about 19,000 small communities and over 400 cities.
- Fun: Let's face it, the bottom line about becoming a Private Pilot is - it's fun! Travel, time
savings, and convenience are all part of flying, but there is something to be said about watching the cars and trucks below on the interstate going around the mountain as you pilot over the mountain.
