The Multi-engine rating may be added to any
pilot certificate - Private, Commercial, or ATP. However, you must hold at least a Private Pilot Certificate. There is no written test or minimum training hour requirement for the multi
rating, but most pilot spend about 5 hours gaining the skills necessary to fly safely.
Multi-engine instrument privileges can be included with your rating by completing the additional requirements and will require an additional 2 to 3 hours
of training.
The multi rating will normally cost around $2,600 and will generally take 3 days of full time training. Use of the simulator will reduce the cost and provide controlled flight scenarios. It is most cost effective to earn the single-engine commercial certificate first then add on multi-engine commercial privedges after completing the multi-engine course.
