Customers Speak

I want to thank you for the excellent flight instruction I have received over the years from you. I thought our last recurrent work was the best yet. I was astounded when, at the beginning, you asked me what I thought I needed. Then we addressed those areas.
     Thank you,

FAA Sport Pilot Check ride ... and how to ace it!

Some say that I am the easiest examiner around. Others would shake their head in disagreement.

I work very hard to make sure this is not a feared or upsetting experience. Every task included in my evaluation is published and documented in the Sport Pilot Practical Test Standards. Download and read this little book carefully.  Especially important is the introductory section that explains how the FAA requires the checkride to be conducted.   The more familiar you are with the PTS the better prepared you will be and the better you will feel. The check ride dreaded by many, only comes from a lack of preparation.

Prepare your 8710-11 Application Form.  Be sure to read the attached instructions on how to complete the form.  It must be done correctly.  When you arrive equipped with a properly completed application, I consider you to be the pilot you say you are!

When you make the appointment, be sure I assign you a cross country to plan.  What is the proper way to ask a lady how much she weighs? Ask me for the the weight of me and my purse! Complete the planning with care, as we will begin our flight as you planned it.

Everyone is nervous.  No one likes to have his or her skills put under a microscope.  But most people are glad that all the other pilots are checked out as being safe, before being added to the fraternity of pilots.   Approaching the checkrice with a positive attitude and correct preparation makes the experience almost enjoyable.

I conduct tests from Lexington (KLEX), at Aero-Tech.  For sport pilots who do not wish to involve themselves with Charlie Airspace, no problem,  I have a Plan B for you.   Exams are $350 and take 4 to 5 hours to complete.   I am available by prior appointment, 7-days each week. Take a look at the Checkride Checklist Below and contact me when you are ready.   The best way to make initial contact is to use the Contact Us link provided  or call Aero-Tech 859-254-8906. I still teach and fly as Chief Instructor at Aero-Tech. Thanks!
